CEPEA Report: Chicken Prices Hit Lowest Level Since July 2023
According to the latest CEPEA report, Brazilian chicken prices continue to fall due to weak domestic demand and uncertainties from the Middle East conflict. In Greater São Paulo, the wholesale price for chilled chicken averaged BRL 6.73/kg in March (up to the 18th), a 5.2% decrease from February. Adjusted for inflation, this marks the lowest price since July 2023.
According to the latest analysis from the University of São Paulo's research center (CEPEA), Brazilian chicken prices are on a continuous downward trend, reaching their lowest point since July 2023. This decline is primarily driven by weak domestic demand and the uncertainties stemming from the conflict in the Middle East, a significant destination for Brazilian chicken exports.
Specifically, in the wholesale market of Greater São Paulo, the average trading price for chilled chicken was BRL 6.73/kg in March (up to the 18th). This represents a 5.2% decrease compared to February. After adjusting for inflation using the February 2026 Consumer Price Index (IPCA), the current chicken price is the lowest recorded since July 2023.
CEPEA researchers highlight that despite the persistent fall in chicken prices, this situation has made chicken more competitive in the market compared to rival meat products such as pork and beef. While pork prices have also shown a downward trend, the depreciation in chicken prices has been even more pronounced, further enhancing its market appeal.
