Beans/CEPEA: Average Carioca Bean Prices Set New Records in March

According to CEPEA/CNA data, the average price of Carioca beans in March 2026 surpassed February's figures, setting a new historical record since the series began in September 2024. Black bean prices also remained high. This surge is attributed to restricted supply, harvesting difficulties, reduced planting area for the first crop, and expectations of lower second crop production, particularly in Paraná.

The CEPEA research center at the University of São Paulo has released its latest report, indicating that the average price of Carioca beans in March 2026 once again broke historical records. This price not only surpassed February's levels but also marked the highest point since CEPEA/CNA began tracking this data series in September 2024. Concurrently, black bean prices also maintained high levels. CEPEA researchers explained that both Carioca and black bean varieties experienced significant price increases throughout the first quarter of 2026. This phenomenon is primarily attributed to persistent supply constraints in the market, numerous difficulties encountered during harvesting, a general reduction in the planting area for the first crop, and expectations of a potential decrease in the second crop's yield, particularly in the state of Paraná. These combined factors have collectively driven the strong upward trend in bean prices. Specific data shows that as of March 26, the average price for Carioca beans of grade 9 or higher increased by 8.3% compared to February, and was a substantial 34% higher than the price recorded in March 2025. Over the first three months of 2026, bean prices demonstrated a notable growth trajectory.
