Beihai Yinhai District, Guangxi: Full Mechanization of Sugarcane Production Boosts Efficiency, Income, and Rural Revitalization

In recent years, the Agriculture, Rural Affairs, and Water Resources Bureau of Yinhai District, Beihai City, Guangxi, has made significant strides in promoting agricultural modernization. The bureau is actively advancing a 'phased mechanized harvesting' technology for sugarcane production, aiming to enhance the overall efficiency and profitability of sugarcane cultivation. This innovative technology utilizes various mechanical equipment, including sugarcane harvesters, piling machines, and cutters, to achieve fully mechanized operations from field harvesting to centralized impurity removal and defoliation, and finally transportation to sugar mills. Compared to traditional manual harvesting methods, mechanical operations have boosted efficiency by over five times. This has significantly alleviated the current labor shortage in agriculture and substantially reduced production costs and labor intensity for sugarcane farmers, bringing tangible economic benefits. Looking ahead, Yinhai District has set ambitious goals. It is projected that by 2026, five agricultural machinery cooperatives, including Xiangbo, Nongdefa, Nianfa, Pengcheng, and Xingnong, will establish six efficient, optimized, and intensive operational systems. These systems will serve as replicable demonstration models, expected to drive mechanized production across more than 10,000 mu (approximately 1,647 acres) of sugarcane fields. This initiative will vigorously promote the large-scale and modernized upgrading of the local sugarcane industry, injecting strong new momentum into the rural revitalization strategy.
