POTATO/CEPEA: Potato Prices Remain Stable
According to CEPEA, special Agata potato prices showed little variation across major wholesale markets in Brazil last week (March 23-27). Average prices in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte remained stable due to consistent supply from producing regions. An increase in demand is anticipated during Holy Week, which may lead to higher prices.
According to data from the CEPEA research center at the University of São Paulo, prices for special Agata potatoes remained relatively stable across all major wholesale markets last week, from March 23 to 27. In São Paulo, the average price reached R$ 61.11 per sack; in Rio de Janeiro, the average was R$ 61.28 per sack; and in Belo Horizonte, it was R$ 56.70 per sack.
Researchers highlighted that the minimal price fluctuation was primarily due to the stable supply from the producing regions. CEPEA analysts anticipate a potential price increase for potatoes in the coming days, driven by the approaching Holy Week, during which demand for the tuber typically intensifies. This expectation is based on historical data and consumer behavior patterns, which show a significant rise in demand for certain agricultural products during specific holiday periods.
While this report focuses on the potato market, CEPEA regularly publishes analyses for other agricultural commodities, including sugar, cotton, coffee, ethanol, and grains, providing comprehensive market insights for the agribusiness sector.
