Orplana and Unica Formalize Consecana-SP Review with New Rules

Brazil's Sugarcane Growers' Association (Orplana) and the Sugarcane Industry and Bioenergy Union (Unica) formalized revisions to the Consecana-SP model this Thursday, the 16th, during the Cana Summit 2026. This review introduces new rules for sugarcane remuneration and adjusts the system's governance. The agreement between Orplana and Unica establishes an additional factor for producers, applies retroactive adjustments to the 2024/25, 2025/26, and subsequent harvests, and implements independent auditing. Roberto Cestari, Chairman of Orplana's Board, stated, "This agreement consolidates significant advancements for the Consecana-SP model, preserving its foundation while incorporating mechanisms that strengthen security and predictability for sugarcane producers." The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) specifies that the 4.5% factor constitutes an additional component exclusively guaranteed to the sugarcane producer, without being integrated into the reference formula, thus preventing its automatic extension to third-party contracts. Furthermore, the document indicates that existing standard Consecana contracts ("pure Consecana") will receive the 4.5% adjustment starting from the 2024/25 harvest. For new contracts, the minimum VTC – the ratio between the price of total recoverable sugar (ATR) and the quantity of ATR – will correspond to Consecana-SP plus the 4.5% factor.
