Brazilian Cotton Exports Accelerate, Nearing Record Highs
Despite three months remaining in the 2025 cotton export season, Brazil's cotton shipments are rapidly approaching a historic record. Robust export demand, rising international prices, and tight domestic supply are collectively driving domestic cotton prices higher.
According to a report from the Center for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (CEPEA) at the University of São Paulo, Brazilian cotton exports are experiencing rapid growth, positioning the country to achieve a new historical record. Even with approximately three months left in the export period for cotton harvested in 2025, the accelerated pace of shipments continues to bolster the domestic market.
CEPEA highlights that internal cotton prices in Brazil are consistently advancing. This upward trend is primarily driven by the firm stance of sellers, appreciating international prices, and the limited supply typical of the off-season period. These combined factors are creating a positive environment for the Brazilian cotton market.
Specific data reveals that in April 2026, Brazil exported 370,400 tons of cotton. This volume represents a 6.5% increase compared to March 2026 and a significant 54.9% surge over April 2025, marking the highest volume ever shipped for that month. This robust export performance underscores Brazil's growing importance in the global cotton market and suggests a continued upward trend in the coming months.
