AI Cameras Aid Pattaya Police in Human Trafficking Arrest
Pattaya police successfully apprehended a Thai man suspected of human trafficking near Walking Street, thanks to advanced AI surveillance cameras. The suspect was wanted on multiple serious charges, including joint human trafficking and exploitation of minors. This case highlights the effectiveness of AI technology in tracking down major crime suspects, particularly in popular tourist areas.
Pattaya police recently utilized an advanced AI surveillance system to successfully apprehend a Thai man suspected of human trafficking. The arrest took place around 9:15 AM on May 15th, near Pattaya's renowned Walking Street. The AI camera system accurately detected and identified an individual matching Criminal Court arrest warrant No. 2462/2569, issued on April 29th, prompting immediate police action.
The arrested suspect, identified as 38-year-old Thai national Somchat Saelee, was reportedly wanted on several grave charges. These include jointly committing human trafficking, conspiracy to commit human trafficking, exploiting a minor, coercion, illegally transporting individuals out of the kingdom, and entering false information into a computer system. These allegations are linked to a network accused of unlawfully exploiting both adults and minors.
Following the arrest, Somchat was transferred to investigators at the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) for legal proceedings. Police highlighted that this case effectively demonstrates the significant potential of AI surveillance technology in bolstering security efforts and tracking suspects involved in serious crimes, particularly in major tourist destinations like Pattaya.
This incident is not an isolated success for AI technology in Pattaya. Earlier in January, four individuals wanted for their alleged involvement in online scam operations were also arrested in the city. On that occasion, AI-powered surveillance cameras alerted tourist police to their presence at the bustling Laem Bali Hai Pier. These suspects, all with outstanding warrants for cybercrime and fraud, were flagged by facial recognition technology and subsequently handed over to the relevant police units.
