China's Sugar Imports Down in April 2026, Cumulative Imports Show Significant Growth
According to China Customs, sugar imports in April 2026 reached 30,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 104,800 tons. However, cumulative imports from January to April 2026 surged to 652,900 tons, an increase of 369,700 tons year-on-year. For the 2025/26 crushing season through April, total sugar imports stood at 2.4155 million tons, up by 670,600 tons compared to the previous season.
According to the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs of China, the country's sugar imports in April 2026 amounted to 30,000 tons. This figure represents a significant year-on-year decrease of 104,800 tons, indicating a notable contraction in monthly import volumes.
Despite the decline in April's imports, a broader perspective reveals a robust growth trend in cumulative sugar imports for the first four months of 2026 (January to April). During this period, China imported a total of 652,900 tons of sugar, marking a substantial year-on-year increase of 369,700 tons.
Further examining the import situation for the entire 2025/26 crushing season, as of the end of April this year, China's cumulative sugar imports reached 2.4155 million tons. This volume is 670,600 tons higher than that of the same period in the previous crushing season, suggesting adjustments in China's sugar demand or supply strategies since the start of the current season.
