Thailand's Sugar Exports Poised for Strong Rebound in 2026/27 Season

Bangkok, Thailand – February 8, 2026 – Thailand, a major global sugar exporter, is poised for a significant rebound in its sugar exports during the 2026/27 crushing season, according to projections from the Thai Sugar Millers Corporation (TSMC). Favorable weather conditions, including adequate rainfall during crucial growing months, have led to optimistic forecasts for sugarcane yields and overall production. After several seasons impacted by drought and reduced planted areas, the industry is hopeful for a return to higher output levels. The TSMC estimates that sugarcane production could reach 105-110 million tonnes, yielding approximately 11-12 million tonnes of sugar. This potential increase in supply comes at a critical time, offering a potential counterbalance to anticipated deficits from other major producers.
