CEPEA: Buyers Slow Down Bean Purchases
According to CEPEA, the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics at the University of São Paulo, the bean market saw a slowdown in buyer demand at the end of May, following significant price increases throughout the month. The arrival of new commercial lots from Paraná particularly pressured Carioca bean prices, while black beans remained stable. Buyers are exercising caution after a period of sharp price escalation.
According to the latest report from CEPEA, the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics at the University of São Paulo, the bean market experienced a deceleration in buyer demand towards the end of May, following substantial price increases throughout the month. Researchers noted that the influx of new commercial bean lots from Paraná primarily exerted downward pressure on Carioca bean prices, whereas black bean prices managed to maintain their stability.
CEPEA indicated that the caution observed in the market at month-end was a natural reaction after a period of significant price escalation. Prior to this, the average monthly prices for Carioca beans had reached new record highs, and black beans had also intensified their upward trajectory. Historical data from CEPEA/CNA, which began in September 2024, shows that both categories of beans registered notable price variations.
