Thai Woman Arrested for Series of Thefts at Bangkok Airports

Thai police recently apprehended a woman at a resort in Sing Buri province, following CCTV footage that implicated her in a series of thefts targeting passengers at Bangkok's two international airports. The investigation commenced on May 21st when a woman identified as Jiraporn reported her bag stolen to officers at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Ms. Jiraporn informed the police that she had fallen asleep for approximately 10 minutes on the third floor of the passenger terminal, near Gate 3. Upon waking, she discovered her bag was missing. Her report detailed the contents of the bag, which included an iPhone 7 Plus, Ray-Ban sunglasses, and cash in various foreign currencies such as UAE dirhams, US dollars, euros, and pounds sterling. The total estimated value of the stolen items amounted to 300,000 baht. Authorities reviewed security camera footage and successfully identified a female suspect. Further investigation revealed that the same woman was connected to two additional theft incidents at Don Mueang International Airport. She is accused of stealing property from a Malaysian traveler on May 16th and from an Indian national on May 20th. Investigators subsequently tracked the suspect to a resort in Sing Buri province, where she was arrested on May 30th. Police have charged her with theft committed at an airport under Section 334 of the Criminal Code, which carries a potential penalty of up to three years imprisonment and a fine of up to 60,000 baht. Furthermore, she faces a charge of theft committed at night under Section 335, punishable by one to five years in prison and a fine ranging from 20,000 to 100,000 baht.
