Bangkok Delivery Rider Robs Tourist to Fund Online Gambling

Bangkok police apprehended a food delivery rider on June 3rd in connection with the alleged bag snatching of a Qatari tourist in the Thong Lor area. The incident occurred on June 2nd when the tourist reported that two men on a motorcycle snatched his bag in Soi Sukhumvit 38 before fleeing. The stolen items included 20,000 baht in cash, US$500, credit cards, and other personal effects. Thong Lor police, in collaboration with Metropolitan Police Division 5, subsequently identified three individuals believed to be involved in the robbery. According to police statements, 30-year-old Worachon was responsible for selecting potential victims, 32-year-old Jakraphat drove the motorcycle, and 26-year-old Anusorn carried out the actual snatching of the tourist's bag. Investigators also noted that black stickers had been placed over the motorcycle's registration plate to obscure its identification. During questioning, Anusorn, who works as a food delivery rider, admitted to receiving 6,000 baht from the proceeds of the robbery and discarding the bag afterwards. Khaosod reported that Anusorn confessed his motive was to fund personal expenses and online gambling. He now faces charges including jointly committing theft at night, causing physical or mental harm, using a vehicle to commit the offense, and carrying away stolen property or evading arrest. His motorcycle has been seized as evidence, and he has been processed at Thong Lor Police Station. Police are actively gathering further evidence to secure arrest warrants for the two other suspects and are currently tracking them down. This incident echoes a similar case from last year, where a 47-year-old man was arrested for snatching a Myanmar national's bag to finance online gambling. That bag contained 28,000 baht, a mobile phone, passport, work permit, and other documents. Such cases highlight the concerning link between criminal activity and the funding of online gambling.
