According to the latest statistical data, China demonstrated robust growth in imports of sugar syrup and white sugar premix (encompassing HS codes 1702.90 and 2106.906) in May 2026. The total import volume for the month reached 109,700 metric tons, marking a significant year-on-year increase of 45,400 metric tons. A closer look at the breakdown by HS codes reveals that imports under HS code 1702.90 for sugar syrup and white sugar premix were particularly strong in May, reaching 100,400 metric tons, an impressive surge of 83,900 metric tons compared to the same period last year. Conversely, imports under HS code 2106.906 for sugar syrup and white sugar premix saw a decline, recording 9,200 metric tons, a decrease of 38,500 metric tons year-on-year. From a broader perspective, the cumulative import volume of sugar syrup and white sugar premix (including both HS codes) for the period of January to May 2026 reached 516,000 metric tons. This represents an increase of 173,500 metric tons compared to the same period last year, indicating a sustained upward trend. However, when examining the entire 2025/26 crushing season (from October 2025 to May 2026), the combined import volume of sugar syrup and white sugar premix (covering HS codes 1702.90 and 2106.906) totaled 815,800 metric tons. This figure represents a decrease of 165,900 metric tons compared to the corresponding period in the previous crushing season. This suggests that despite recent monthly increases, the overall trend for the entire season may have been influenced by earlier factors.
