Thailand Weather Alert: Heavy Rains Expected in Northeast and East

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a nationwide weather alert, forecasting heavy rainfall across most regions, with the Northeast and East expected to experience the most severe conditions over the next 24 hours. Residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes are urged to be vigilant for potential flash floods and runoff. A monsoon trough is currently traversing Northern Thailand and the upper Northeast, interacting with Tropical Storm Maysak. Concurrently, a robust southwest monsoon is sweeping across the Andaman Sea, mainland Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, intensifying rainfall throughout the country. The TMD advises communities situated in vulnerable areas to prepare for accumulated rainfall that could trigger flash floods and forest runoff. Regarding sea conditions, the upper Andaman Sea is experiencing strong winds, with waves anticipated to reach two to three meters, potentially exceeding three meters in thunderstorm-affected zones. The lower Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand will see waves around two meters, rising above two meters during storms. Mariners are advised to navigate with extreme caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should remain docked. For Northern Thailand, thunderstorms are expected to affect 70% of the region. Heavy rainfall is specifically forecast for Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, and Uttaradit. Temperatures will range from 23 to 26 degrees Celsius at the lower end and 30 to 35 degrees Celsius at the higher end, with southwest winds blowing at 10 to 20 kilometers per hour. In Northeast Thailand, 70% of the region will be impacted by thunderstorms. Heavy rain is predicted for Loei, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, and Ubon Ratchathani, with extremely heavy rain possible in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, and Nakhon Phanom. Temperatures will vary from 23 to 26 degrees Celsius to 30 to 35 degrees Celsius, accompanied by southwest winds at 10 to 20 kilometers per hour.
