Mukdahan Province Confirms 20 Million Baht Insurance Payout After Tragic Accident

Mukdahan Province Governor, Vorayan Boonnarach, has confirmed that the pickup truck involved in a devastating accident possessed valid insurance coverage amounting to approximately 20 million baht (around US$552,000). The tragic incident occurred on the inbound lane of the main road near the Huai Sing entrance in the Ban Na Si Nuan area of Mueang district, Mukdahan province, when the vehicle collided with a group of Buddhist monks undertaking a dhutanga pilgrimage. The procession comprised 34 monks and five lay followers who were walking to fulfill their religious duties. Five monks tragically died at the scene, with three more succumbing to their injuries later at Mukdahan Hospital, bringing the total fatalities to over eight. Emergency rescue teams arrived within ten minutes of the alert, promptly transporting the injured and deceased to the hospital. Surviving monks were taken to Wat Roi Phra Phutthabat Phu Manorom for rest, while arrangements are being made for their return to their respective home provinces. Governor Vorayan provided an update yesterday, July 2, at 1:30 PM, detailing the extent of the crash and the condition of those still receiving medical treatment. He assured that doctors are closely monitoring all patients. Police have taken the minor driver into custody, and officials have been assigned to oversee the case due to the suspect's age. Regarding compensation, Governor Vorayan reiterated that the pickup truck's insurance policy was active at the time of the crash and offers coverage of approximately 20 million baht, as reported by Amarin TV.
