National Average: Ethanol Prices Decline for 11th Consecutive Week

During the week of June 28 to July 4, 2024, fuel prices across Brazil generally declined. Ethanol prices, in particular, recorded their 11th consecutive weekly drop in the national average, while gasoline prices also saw widespread reductions. According to a survey by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), ethanol prices decreased in 17 states and the Federal District, with gasoline prices falling in 19 federal units. Over this period, the average price of hydrous ethanol was R$4.08 per liter, a 0.5% decrease from the previous week, marking its lowest value since the first week of December 2024. Gasoline was sold at an average of R$6.61 per liter, down 0.2%. Consequently, the price of the biofuel remained within a range considered economically favorable for consumers. ANP data indicated that the ratio between ethanol and gasoline prices was 61.7%, a reduction from the preceding week's 61.9% and the lowest result since February 2024. The ANP's figures account not only for prices observed at gas stations but also for sales volumes, giving greater representation to large consumer markets in the overall outcome. Considering state averages, ethanol continues to be the more economically advantageous option for consumers in eight states and the Federal District. While hydrous ethanol prices from São Paulo mills decreased, they rose in Mato Grosso and Goiás. The ANP's price survey encompassed 381 Brazilian cities, an increase of eight cities from the prior week.
