Bangkok, Thailand – Thailand, the world's second-largest sugar exporter, is setting ambitious targets for its sugar exports in 2026, aiming for record volumes despite facing domestic challenges. The Thai Cane and Sugar Corporation (TCSC) announced that favorable weather conditions during crucial growing phases have significantly boosted sugarcane yields, leading to an optimistic outlook for the current crushing season. Preliminary estimates suggest potential production exceeding 12 million tonnes of sugar, a substantial increase from the previous year. However, the industry is navigating rising labor costs and the ongoing transition towards more sustainable farming practices, including reduced water usage and chemical inputs. The government is actively promoting mechanization and providing incentives for farmers to adopt efficient irrigation systems to mitigate these challenges.
