Pork/CEPEA: Pork Prices Continue to Fall, Boosting Competitiveness

According to CEPEA data, the real monthly average price of pork in February 2026 has fallen to its lowest level since April 2024. This ongoing depreciation has, for the second consecutive month, enhanced pork's competitiveness against beef and chicken. While chicken prices also saw a decline, pork's drop was more pronounced.

The University of São Paulo Research Center reports that, according to CEPEA data, the current real monthly average price for pork (deflated by the IPCA of January 2026) has reached its lowest point since April 2024, as of February 26, 2026. This ongoing depreciation trend, which intensified in February, has significantly boosted pork's competitiveness against its main rivals, beef and chicken, for the second consecutive month. CEPEA researchers explain that the gain in competitiveness against beef this month is also influenced by an increase in the price of beef carcasses. While chicken protein has also seen a devaluation, its intensity is less significant than that observed for pork. Researchers from CEPEA emphasize that the continuous decline in live hog prices is a key factor driving this market dynamic.
