Eggs/CEPEA: Price Increase Boosts Purchasing Power Recovery
According to the CEPEA research center at the University of São Paulo, a significant rise in egg prices in February has led to a recovery in the purchasing power of São Paulo poultry farmers. This development has reversed several consecutive months of decline relative to corn and soybean meal prices, positively impacting producers.
According to data from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (CEPEA) at the University of São Paulo (USP), the significant increase in egg prices during February (up to the 25th) has led to a recovery in the purchasing power of São Paulo poultry farmers against their main inputs: corn and soybean meal. Researchers highlighted that this movement has halted the five consecutive months of decline in purchasing power relative to corn and seven consecutive months for soybean meal.
In Bastos, São Paulo, the average price for extra-large white eggs (FOB, pick-up) reached R$147.98 per 30-dozen box in February, marking a substantial 36.7% increase compared to January. Similarly, red eggs in the São Paulo region averaged R$166.57 per box for the partial month, an increase of 37% from the previous period.
